Purpose: Overview of all the entities, associations, and source breakdown.

  • Useful for investigating complex ontologies produced when merging unstructured and structured data.

Sources Breakdown: Currently deactivated - under construction.

Entities Breakdown:  Lists all of the different types of entities extracted either from document metadata or generated during NLP, including document counts.

Associations Breakdown: Lists all of the verb categories (the top level type of the association between entities)

All vs Top Results

There are two views of the entities and associations:

"All Results" - the first of these shows the top 100 or so entities/associations

"Top Results" -  shows all of the entities/associations within the top 100 documents (normally more than the "All Results").

Both should be inspected to get an overview of the data.

Advanced Options

The number of aggregated entities and associations returned can be controlled by the advanced options page, see below (together with various other parameters: including the number of documents to bring back into the workspace and the granularity of the temporal aggregation in the timeline widget).

  • Note - There is obviously a trade-off between fidelity and performance (and the defaults seem to be a good compromise across a variety of use cases).
