Overview

You can use the Query Metrics widget to obtain an overview of all the entities, associations, and source breakdown.  This is useful for investigating complex ontologies produced when merging unstructured and structured data.

About Query Metrics

The general visualization approach is to highlight aggregated statistics i.e. the frequency/significance of entities & associations, document & entity counts by hour/day/week or clustered by geo, etc.

The Query Metrics widget is useful for getting an overview of the data and the ontology used to index entities and associations.

The 'Entities' view lists all the different types of entities extracted from either the document metadata or text using NLP (i.e. VulnerabilityCategory, OperatingSystem, PrivateDNS), as well as their document counts

The 'Associations' view lists the different the top level "verb categories" between entities (i.e. vulnerability_detected, affects, indicates).

Using the Widget

The general visualization approach is to show aggregated statistics - eg the sum/average of sentiments, the frequency/importance of entities and associations, document or entity counts by hour/day/week, or clustered by geo etc.

Viewing Results

Note that there are two views of the entities and associations: "All Results" and "Top Results" (see screenshot) - the first of these shows the top 100 or so entities/associations (see below), the second shows all of the entities/associations within the top 100 documents (normally more than the "All Results"). Both should be inspected to get an overview of the data.

"All Results" - the first of these shows the top 100 or so entities/associations

"Top Results" -  shows all of the entities/associations within the top 100 documents (normally more than the "All Results").

Setting Advanced Options

Note that the number of aggregated entities and associations to be returned can be controlled by the advanced options page, see below (together with various other parameters: including the number of documents to bring back into the workspace and the granularity of the temporal aggregation in the timeline widget). There is obviously a trade-off between fidelity and performance (and the defaults seem to be a good compromise across a variety of use cases).
